Any festival without food is incomplete. And when it is Holi, traditional Indian food is a must and the most popular recipe is Gujiya. Let’s see how we can make it.
Holi Gujiya Recipe in 2020:
It is a crispy, fried, and golden brown, stuffed sweet dish. Holi for Indians is not complete without Gujiya. So we can say colors and Gujiyas are two essential pillars of Holi celebrations.
Ingredients for Holi Gujiya:
To prepare Gujiya on Holi, you need the following ingredients. For best results, take care of the measurements of each ingredient.
|Maida (flour)||500 grams|
|Cooking Oil||6 tablespoons|
|Khoya (curd)||1 kg|
|Almonds (thin strips)||200 grams|
|Kismis (raisins)||3 tablespoons|
Step 1 – Preparing the dough:
First, you need to prepare the dough. For this purpose, mix maida with cooking oil. Kneed it till the sticky mix takes the shape of bread crumbs. Now add some water and kneed it. Keep on adding water after a while till the mixture becomes a soft dough. When done, place it aside and cover it with a damp cloth.
Step 2 – Preparing the filling:
Put khoya in a deep pan and fry it on a low flame until it turns golden brown. Add sugar and mix it well. When khoya and sugar combine well, add almonds and kismis. Now fry the mixture for a few minutes till the taste of almonds and kismis gets in the mixture. After that, leave it to cool down.
Step 3 – Putting the filling into the dough:
By the time the filling is cooling, kneed the dough in the form of a chapatti. Make it a little thicker and smaller than a regular chapatti. Now the filling became cold. Now put the filling on to the chapatti and roll it to make a semi-circle. To seal the edges, twist the ending inwards to make a perfect Gujiya look. Make sure that the seal is not broken from anywhere.
Step 4 – Frying the Gujiyas:
For frying, use a deep pan. Turn the flame to low and deep fry Gujiyas for a few minutes till they turn golden brown. After frying, put them on a sieve so that the excess oil drains out. After that, put them on a white paper so that if any excess oil remains, it can be soaked up.
Try something crispy with it too.
Serve them to your guests, and they will surely love it. Don’t forget to write to us about your experience in preparing Gujiyas yourself.
